Hi John, Great site, super pictures.I'm in the process of photographing essex churches.Well, you've got to do something when you retire.I must admit it has taken me to some amazing parts of Essex.I'm sure you know exactly what i mean.My top 3 choices?.Ulting, Bradwell and Matching Green just for their setting.Ulting and Matching Green churches are in such beautiful settings that i really find peace there.Bradwell, well what can you say about it.It's such a spiritual place that i'm sure it must have an effect on everyone who visits it.I keep promising myself that i must go there on a cold, foggy day.It would be amazing i'm sure.I was talking to a lady there once who had made the effort and arrived just in time for sunrise [ about 4-30am ] to photograph it.I'm keen but not that keen.Steve

I certainly do know what you mean, Steve. It makes you realise that Essex is rather a nice place after all.
Many of my photos are quite old. And those older ones show a lot of my original naivety. It was only about 3 years ago that I shook off the "carrying a tripod around makes me feel too self-conscious" feeling. I used to use the tiny in-built flash to do church interiors. Not good! :-)
Mundon is probably my favourite Essex church - purely because I found it almost by accident one day. And it was quite unlike anything else I'd seen until then.
I've got 29 years until I retire. Well - probably 34, bt I'll probably have to do churches in Wales or something by then! ;-)

Steve You have certainly done a lot of walking this year--are your legs tired? Haven't looked at all the fantastic photos yet but particularly pleased to see Canewdon church-one of my Essex favourites. Amazing that such a huge church was built for such a, relatively, desolate area. My all time favourite photo of yours is still the dog wearing his plastic raincoat! Happy snapping. Grace |

Hi Grace,Many thank's for the kind comments.Yes i must admit Canewdon is a massive church for such a small village. It's a special place for me as i have happy memories of going to their open gardens day with my late wife in 2001/02.Regarding the dog in a raincoat pic, i sent this to the BBC when they were requesting photo's for their weather forcast backgrounds.Never heard a thing and to my knowlege they have never used it.Best wishes.Steve
