Hi all
I live on the 'new' development and was wondering if anyone else had problems with mobile phone signals in Orsett and if so what they did about it?
I have my contract with Orange and my partner has TMobile and Vodaphone and we can't make calls in our house (or back garden or front path) without the call cutting off. I can just about get one bar to send and receive texts. This is despite all their websites saying the signal strength should be good where we are!
I know of several people who have the same problem in different areas of the development but not sure how the rest of Orsett is.
Does anyone have O2 or 3 phones that seem to work ok? Or does anyone have any suggestions? I am paying for a phone with loads of inclusive minutes that I can't use when at home and my home phone bill is a fortune calling mobiles!
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks

The signal quality fluctuates between 3 bars and zero on Bonners. We are in a slight dip, mind you - so that probably doesn't help. I can just about make calls upstairs. But downstairs, indoors, it's nigh on impossible. I still receive texts, though, as the signal comes and goes.

im on 02 and things seem ok... i was on orange and never got a signal!
i spend lots of time between the bonners and the village school - i can get 3g, surf the web + make calls... the whitmore is my worst place for signal - but who want to be interrupted while having a cold one ;)
my samsung jet is not as good as my sony ericsson c905 for signal swapping over the chip between phones...
orange allowed me to leave due to the poor signal - and i was 11 months into my 18 month contract.

Strange, I'm the opposite of you Torro ... were on the west of the village ... O2 is excellent, but my work Vodaphone is abysmal. 1 or 2 bars only but very bad quality with lots of drop outs and calls failing in mid sentence |

I'm smack bang in the middle of the new development and my O2 provides an OK-ish service all round the house (with a couple of dead spots)
My work Vodafone provides marginally worse coverage.
T-Mobile, Orange and 3 are pretty much a waste of time. It's great fun watching my neighbour having to stand in his garden to make a call on his 3 mobile
I spoke to O2 about my service and my local cell is only 1.5 miles away...which isn't bad in mobile mast terms.
I suspect that due to the metal stud work used in the construction of the new development, the houses almost act like Faraday cages and aren't particularly good at allowing mobile signals to pass through.
I also notice that normal radio reception is a bit hit and miss as well!
Incidentally, it's well known that O2 and Vodafone's 900Mhz frequencies penetrate buildings better than Orange, T-Mobile and 3's 1800Mhz spectrum.
Cheers

| If you struggle to get a signal at home without going to the top of the house or out in the garden, why not just use your landline ? |

i would assume they have free minutes to burn up... no point in having free minutes and not using them :)
i use my 'free' mobile minutes during the day as i only have evening & weekends with BT...

Thank you all for your replies.
Much appreciated. My contract with Orange is up so I might get a friend with O2 to come round and try to use her phone, sounds like they might be my best bet.

I think we should apply for a new mast to be erected on the pound or even the church roof

Mobile reception on the new estate is terrible. I have tried 02 and Orange. Both very poor IMHO.

I am going to sing the praises of "3" as we all have them in our house and we can make calls from everywhere (even the smallest room!) We are not on the new estate though but in the centre of the village.

No problem with Orange or Tesco Mobile (O2?) for us at High rd, Mill lane end...I know its poor on Rectory Rd.
You can get signal boosters online from about £99 but have not tried them. |
