Hello
I see you have a thriving history forum and I wonder if anyone can help me
I am researching my family tree and am looking for any information on:
Francis John Bamberger 1859 - 1933 (his death was registered in Orsett)
Francis was married to Sarah Caroline Stirrup and they had 7 children:
Louise, Francis Charles, Frederick James, Lilian Alice, Nellie Harriet, Albert Edward and Oliver Francis
I would love to find out anything about any of the above - I don't know how long Francis John lived in Orsett, only that he died there
Hope you can help me!
Many thanks
Adrienne Bamberger

Hi
There an email coming to you with some info that came up on my East London site, there was too much to put on this site, you may already have it of course, did you know his father was German? Anyway I am going to the Essex archives tomorrow I will see if they have any records for that era, they keep all Essex records there, if I find out anything I will send it to you.

Also, his son in law James Robinson was in attendance (he married Francis John's daughter Nellie Harriet in 1915)

I wouldn't be so lucky as to find a ROBINSON out there, would I?

Hello again

Got the death cert for Francis John Bamberger and it shows he died at Orsett Lodge. I think this was a workhouse, then an infirmary...am I right?

It all seems pretty grim. Has anyone got any idea if there are records surviving for 1938? Francis John lived in Dagenham so I suppose this was the nearest place for those with limited resources?

Any info gratefully received!

Hello to you all

Thanks very much for these replies...I'm afraid I put d.1933 and it was actually 1938 but it seems like that makes no odds anyway
Although we have the following info:
Death registered Orsett
Age 78
4a/711
1938 Jan-Mar
it seems,as Ed and Grace have said, that he could have died anywhere in the registration area and this is probably going to be a dead end (no pun intended!)
My sister in Australia is the research queen - I just do follow-ups!

Thanks again for the interest

I had a quick look on Ancestry.co.uk and can find no death record for a Francis John Bamberger at all!

I can see a birth record in 1859, a marriage record for 1883 and census entries in 1891 (where they lived in Chelsea) and 1901, which as Ed states, shows the family living in West Ham.

What source are you referencing that states he died in 1933?

Cheers

JC

Sorry, but Francis John Bamberger was not buried at Orsett, and I don't see the name Bamberger appear in any of the records transcribed so far. However, the index to the 1901 census shows that family living at West Ham. Hope that's of some help.

Hello Adrienne
Your ancestor Francis John Bamberger may not have died in Orsett Village. Until 1939 Orsett was the registration district for a much larger area--please see article on same by Ed Hanson.
Unless he was buried in Orsett (and I do not have those details) the only way to find out where he died is to either purchase or research the death certificate that will give you exact date, location, cause of death, etc.
I have not seen the name Bamberger associated with Orsett village which had a small population in 1933, but there is a hospital where it is possible he may have been a patient.
Good luck with your research.
Grace
